1995 Exosquad Typhonus w/ Deep Submergence E-Frame (Special Mission)

1995 Exosquad Typhonus w/ Deep Submergence E-Frame (Special Mission) Review

I’ve been in an Exosquad mood lately, which is all thanks to Exosquad Archive’s Exo Gear set I reviewed a couple weeks ago. Since then, I’ve retrieved the rest of my Exosquad toys from storage, organized them with the toys I had here at home, and sorted out all of my extra parts. I even spent way too much money on a few bits and pieces on eBay.

Since I’m currently fixated on Playmates’ mid-90s sci-fi mecha toy line, it was pretty much inevitable that it would be the subject of a review.

Today we’re looking at Special Missions Typhonus with Deep Submergence E-Frame, which was released in 1995. This was one of the six Exosquad toys I had as a kid, so it’s pretty special to me.

This toy also does a lot of things, even though it looks pretty basic on the surface. But there’s a lot to uncover and unpack here, so I’m excited to share it with you.

Are you ready for a deep dive?

Exo Gear from Exosquad Archive Review

I’m particularly excited about today’s review for several reasons. Writing about Exosquad Archive’s excellent (and unexpected) Exo Gear accessory set gave me a great excuse to delve back into the world of Exosquad. I hadn’t really played around with my old Exosquad toys in several years, which is a shame because they are some of the best toys in existence.

Writing about this set also gives me a chance to celebrate Exosquad Archive, which is an amazing website run by great people. The fact that they’re actually releasing new Exosquad-related toys in 2025 is just incredible. I never thought I’d be expanding my Exo Collection with something like this some 30 years past the toy line’s end.

Adding something new to a toy collection really encourages you to go back and appreciate what you have. And since most of the Exosquad pieces I don’t already have are very rare and very expensive, this little accessory pack is very much appreciated.

Today we’re looking at a smattering of newly released rocket launchers, long rifles, holdout pistols, and other assorted blasters for your ExoFleet and Neosapien armies. Let’s jack in.

1994 Exosquad Livanus with Troop Transport E-Frame

1994 Exosquad Livanus with Troop Transport E-Frame Review

1994 Exosquad Livanus with Troop Transport E-Frame

This review has been at least three years in the making. Maybe more. I’ve been working on it on and off since my Rita Torres review, but made only a little progress here and there until a couple weeks ago. Mostly, this toy is big and slightly hard to photograph. Or so I thought. I kind of psyched myself out– it’s actually not hard to photograph at all. I think I was just making excuses for myself.

Some of the photos in this review are old and probably not up to the “quality” of images I produce now, but I’m going to leave them in here to show how long I’ve been working on this thing.

I also want to dedicate this review to my friend Barry B., who’s been politely asking for it ever since that Rita Torres review. Thanks for your near-infinite patience, Barry!

Without further chatter, let’s take a look at the 1994 Exosquad Livanus with Troop Transport E-Frame.

The Dragon Fortress x RetroCabal

I was on another podcast! It’s been a good week for me.

This time, my friend David had me on his podcast RetroCabal. Dave’s a great guy, and we’ve been friends on Twitter and Instagram for a couple years now, so it was great to actually talk to him. He’s a bit younger than me, but he also has a passion for 90s toys and the properties that spawned them.

Join us as we talk about 93-94 GI Joe, Beast Wars, Exosquad, the pre-WWE WWF, and more!

David is passionate, positive, and knowledgeable. It’s a great combo. Also, I’m there.

You can listen below or find the podcast on all of your favorite aggregators.

You can also find David on Twitter

Thanks for listening! I hope you enjoy it.

1994 Exosquad Rita Torres with Field Sergeant E-Frame

1994 Exosquad Rita Torres with Field Sergeant E-Frame – Dragon Fortress Reviews

1994 Exosquad Rita Torres with Field Sergeant E-Frame

(Updated 9/10/25 with a few new images)

Name: Rita Torres

Rank: Field Sergeant

E-Frame Type: Field Sergeant E-Frame #LD-029

Birth Planet: Earth

Dossier: Rita Torres is second to J.T. Marsh in the chain of command for Able Squad. As Field Sergeant, Torres is often first to engage Neosapien fire. On the ground or in the air, Torres is one tough leader. She follows the ExoFleet handbook to the letter, which often puts her at odds with the unorthodox procedures of Wolf Bronski.

With her Field Sergeant E-Frame at her command, Torres is never one to retreat from heavy ordinance Neobashing. She is able-bodied, level-headed, and objective-oriented — a perfect soldier of combat.

Name: Colleen O’Reilly

Rank: Second Lieutenant

Assignment: ExoSquad JumpTroop: Charlie-Five Squadron

E-Frame Type: Rapid Recon #LS 042

Dossier: Colleen O’Reilly is the communications and ExoTech specilist for JumpTroop: Charlie-Five Squadron. She’s gutsy and outgoing. O’Reilly has a photographic memory and can hotwire just about any electronic device in the HomeWorlds. As one of only three ranking officers in Charlie-Five, O’Reilly interfaces with Able Squad and has developed a special camaraderie with J.T. Marsh. Under cover of her Venusian Defense Cammo, O’Reilly can touch down in her UltraLight Rapid Recon E-Frame, blast her way into Neosapien strongholds, electronically sabotage Neo security and be out in time to join primary ExoForces in battle.
